"I will have an aesthetic operation, but how will I look after it?"
“How will my nose look after surgery?”
“How will the larger size implant look?”
"These questions come to mind before any aesthetic intervention. Patients, especially before plastic surgery, want to have an idea of how they will look after the procedure. ”
In this case, there are two options we, plastic surgeons, have.
The first option is to select the ones among our previously operated patients who are similar to the applicant and to show their before/after photos. For example, it is quite a good method to show the results of our patients who had undergone abdominoplasty to an abdominoplasty patient.
To show the first-year post-op photos of a former patient is usually helpful to tell the person requesting breast reduction how thin the scar will look one year later. This allows applicants to understand the scar condition after recovery and to have some idea about the late-term results.
In some cases, however, before-after photos of our former patients will not be enough. For example, the person applying for nose surgery wonders how it will look frontally, from the side and bottom. Or she/he comes with many questions such as “How would the nose look better, curved, or flat? How much should the tip of the nose be lifted? How will my upper lip look after nose surgery?".
A woman who is considering breast augmentation also has many questions in her mind about the size and shape of the prosthesis.
It is not possible to reply to all these questions by showing previous patient photographs.
In recent years, we have had better weapons to answer these questions: photo-editing and simulation programs.
Today, every plastic surgeon uses at least one of these photo-editing programs. First, the patient's photograph is taken, and then the most desirable result is reached by making changes to this photograph.
We use the CRISALIX simulation program among them.
Crisalix is an advanced program for creating 3D images using artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) technologies. This program is capable of self-learning and can develop itself over time and produce higher-quality images.
Surely, a surgical operation is different from a simulation created in 30 seconds. While any desired changes can be made in the simulation programs, in real life these changes are possible as much as tissues and structures allow.
In addition, while the simulation programs create completely still, static images, in real life, all the muscles of our body are always dynamic and change shape-position momentarily.
Therefore, the images created do not show the exact final state. Based on the images generated, the result of the surgery cannot be guaranteed.
The main purpose of these simulation programs is not to show the final form but to give an idea about the eventuality of the procedure, to ensure the surgeon and the patient understand each other better.
There is a preparation process before the aesthetic procedures that can be applied, depending on the type of problem experienced.
